In this session, you will gain understanding of what autism is, how it is diagnosed, and learn how to recognize its characteristics. In addition to Marcia, you’ll hear from Faith Jegede who has two brothers with autism and learn what life is like from her perspective. Marcia will give you practical tips on how to interact with children who have autism, when to seek help from your coordinator, and what parents of these children want to know from classroom volunteers.

About the speaker: Marcia Boeche is the Director of the mid-week Preschool and the weekend Special Needs Ministry at North Coast Church, Vista Campus. She has twenty-five years of experience working with children and is fluent in ASL. She has been on staff at North Coast Church for sixteen years and resides in Vista with Kurt, her husband of forty-one years. Together they have two adult children and two grandchildren.
